Singers don't really don't get a lot of money from CDs sales.

The record company gets most of it.

Singers don't see much from their labels, unless the said singer own their own label, like Jay-Z is the CEO of Rock-a-Fella Records.

The artists makes money from merchandise and touring.
Reply:The artists get an advance on their royalties, and they make millions on tours and special appearances. Don't let the whining and crybaby taktics of such entities like RCCA let you believe that the artists are being ripped off and are starving, they are not.
Reply:Touring - artists only get a small percentage from their label to begin with. The big money is in touring.

Does the industry care if people have to repurchase their music because technology has advanced making their cassettes and albums obsolete? No one in the industry seems to acknowledge that!
Reply:you joinn ASCAP or BMI and they track all that stuff and get you paid.
Reply:if you BUY them from the internet, the artistes either

a. get money by taking a % of your payment

b. have already gotten a lump sum from selling the rights of the song to the seller.

if you just download them for free, then this has been discussed to death. yes it will discourage new artists and bankrupt the music industry.
